6. Be Careful with Lighting
Bright light is not conductive to a peaceful mind. In fact, it can disrupt your circadian rhythm entirely. With that in mind, keep your room dimly lit and use warm light instead of cool light. Make it a habit to turn down your lights every time you enter the room at night and allow the lighting to let your body know it’s time to sleep. You should also consider hanging curtains and blinds that will keep light out of your windows and prevent it from waking you up in the morning.
7. Pick the Right Temperature
Not many people think about this issue, but temperature can have a big impact on how you sleep. Have you ever spent a hot summer night with zero air conditioning and found yourself unable to fall asleep? Keep the temperature in your room cool, but not cold. You don’t want to wake up sweating from the heat, but you also don’t want to be cold while you sleep. Keeping the temperature no lower than 60 degrees but no higher than 67 is a good start.
